Every songwriter has his or her own way of creating music. The different processes are endless, and at the end of the day, like creating any type of art, there are zero rules. The only thing one can hope for is that the song is not only decent enough to stand on its own, but even raises an eyebrow or two -- translation: the chords, lyrics and melody all work together to create something unique and special.

What is Transcription?

Before we go into the "cool tool," let's define transcription in the musical sense. Transcription is the process of writing down in musical notation, the melody, harmony and structure of a song or instrumental solo. It's a form of reverse engineering a musical passage or song in an effort to better understand the performing musicians' approaches.
